Druk Path Trek is one of the most well-liked treks in Bhutan. It is a short and scenic trek with some great views of the natural beauty and beautiful lakes en route. Although it leads up to altitudes above 4000m, it is not too strenuous as walking distance between the camps is not too long. Beside the lake, it is the Phadjoding monastery that is one of the highlights of this trek.

Druk Path TrekThis trek leads from Paro to Thimphu or vice versa; crossing the chain of mountains that separate the two valleys. Although the route is sparsely inhabited, there are wonderful lakes teeming with fish and the area is famous for its spectacular rhododendron forests, which bloom in May. In the clear weather of late autumn and winter, there are outstanding views of the Himalayas that really tempt all the visitors with their scenic sight



Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01 :Arrive at Paro Airport and transfer to the hotel.

Day 02 :Acclimatization day. Local sightseeing includes visit to Drugyel Dzong, Ta Dzong, and the traditional wooden bridge. Stroll through Paro town.

Day 03 :The trek trail is gradual and if the weather is clear the Paro valley can be seen from the town.

Day 04 :The trail takes you through thick alpine forests and rhododendron trees.

Day 05 :The trail follows the ridge of the mountain and on a clear day one can get a splendid view of the mountains and valleys. Camp is close to the lake of Jimilangtso.

Day 06 :The trail goes through dwarf rhododendron trees and passes by the lake of Janetsho.

Day 07 :The trek begins with a gradual climb and if weather permitted

Day 08 :The trail to Thimphu goes down hill through the blue pine forests. It takes about 2 -3 hours to reach Thimphu. Overnight at hotel.

Day 09 :Visit National Library, School of Thangka Painting, Institute of Traditional Medicine and the Memorial Chorten. In the afternoon, visit the Handicraft Emporium.

Day 10 :After lunch, drive to Paro. On the way, visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in the country built in 1627 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of Bhutan.

Day 11 :Spend a full day hike to Taktshang, the Tiger's Nest.

Day 12 :Early breakfast at the hotel, and drive to the Paro Airport to board the flight

Day 04 :The trail takes you through thick alpine forests and rhododendron trees. The yaks in winter graze in the pastures around the path and there may be some yaks and yak herders around the campsite.

Day 05 :The trail follows the ridge of the mountain and on a clear day one can get a splendid view of the mountains and valleys. Camp is close to the lake of Jimilangtso.

Day 06 :The trail goes through dwarf rhododendron trees and passes by the lake of Janetsho.

Day 07 :The trek begins with a gradual climb and if weather permitted you will get to see a beautiful view of Mount Gangkhar Punsum, the highest mountain in Bhutan and other Himalayan mountains from Doupchula Pass. The path gradually descends till Phajoding, where the monastery and the retreat centers for meditation are located.

Day 08 :The trail to Thimphu goes down hill through the blue pine forests. It takes about 2 -3 hours to reach Thimphu. Overnight at hotel.

Day 09 :Visit National Library, School of Thangka Painting, Institute of Traditional Medicine and the Memorial Chorten. In the afternoon, visit the Handicraft Emporium.

Day 11 :Spend a full day hike to Taktshang, the Tiger's Nest. This magical monastery clings to a vertical sandstone cliff 3,000 ft. above the valley floor. The monastery unfortunately got burnt in 1998 and has recently been reconstructed. OR Drive to Chelila Pass, where you can see the beautiful mountain ranges and rhododendron flowers in bloom. On the way back, walk to Chila Nunnery.

Day 12 :Early breakfast at the hotel, and drive to the Paro Airport to board the flight
