Trek to Gangtey offers you a romantic view of glacial valleys, mountain scene, wildlife and many more in Bhutan. This trek takes you to the beautiful Phobjikha valley (3000m), one of the glacial valleys in Bhutan, lies in the mountains east of Wangduephodrang.

Gangtey TrekAfter crossing over the pass, you will soon reach to great monastery of Gangtey, which was established in the 17th century. The village of Phobjikha lies a few kilometers down from the monastery. Its a quiet valley which is also known as the chosen winter home of the rare black-necked cranes, who migrate here annually from the Tibetan plateau. This moderate trek visits the villages of Gogona and Khotokha, passing through meadows and fields, then forests of juniper, magnolia and rhododendron in full bloom in April. It is one of the finest low level treks in Bhutan.



Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01 :Arrive at Paro Airport transfer to hotel.

Day 02 :In the morning,

Day 03 :After breakfast,

Day 04 :Walk around the valley of Phobjikha. Relax in the afternoon.

Day 05 :The trek begins through meadows and fields and then ascends over the Tselela Pass and mixed forests of juniper, bamboo, magnolia and rhododendron. Overnight in camp.

Day 06 :A gentle climb leads to Shobjula (3,400m) and then descends to a wide valley, which is another home for the Black Necked Cranes.

Day 07 :A short climb to Tashila Pass (2804m). After crossing the pass, you will reach Chunzom where the transport will be waiting for you on the motor road. Drive on to Thimphu.

Day 08 :Visit the National Library, which holds a vast collection of ancient Buddhist manuscripts. Visit also to the School of Thangka Painting and the Institute of Traditional Medicine. Then, visit the Memorial Chorten, built in memory of the late King, Jigme Do

Day 09 :Early morning drive to Paro Airport for departure.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01 :Arrive at Paro Airport transfer to hotel.

Day 02 :In the morning, visit to Drugyel Dzong, 18 kilometers away from Paro town. On a clear day, you can get a clear view of Mount Chhomolhari, Mountain of Goddess (24,000f). Visit to Ta Dzong and see a typical Bhutanese wooden bridge. After lunch, drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.

Day 03 :After breakfast, leave for Gangtey Gompa. The drive goes over Dochula Pass (3080m). On a clear day, drive to Wangdue Phodrang town and on to Gangtey Gompa. Gangtey Gompa is in Phobjikha valley (9,840f), one of the winter homes of the endangered Black Necked Cranes who fly down from Central Asia every winter.
