The Gasa Hot Spring Trek is one of the easier treks in Bhutan. Although the altitude difference between starting and ending point is minimal, many ups and downs on the way can make it more strenuous than it looks at the first sight. However, the unforgettable views and a visit of Gasa Dzong are absolutely rewarding.

Gasa Hot Spring TrekThis trek includes the sightseeing of Paro valley, Thimphu (capital of Bhutan), Punakha and the surrounding valleys. The highest altitude on this trek is approximately (3,840m). The villages of Gasa with its hot springs and Laya are north of Punakha. No road extends from the trailhead at Tashithang up the valley and the only way to get here is on foot. Laya is a large isolated region in the far northwest of the Gasa district. The majority of people in this area are from a group called Layap, who have their own language, customs and distinct dresses. This trek is a combination of culture and trekking tours.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01 :Arrive at Paro Airport and transfer to the hotel.

Day 02 :Acclimatization day.

Day 03 :The drive to Tashithang takes five hours and passes over Dochula Pass

Day 04 :The first day’s trail goes through the high agriculture benches above the Mo Chu (Female River) into a lush semi-tropical gorge filled with banana trees.

Day 05 :The trail runs through the villages, fields, oak and pine forests.

Day 06 :Visit the Gasa Hot Spring (Tshachu).

Day 07 :After short climb from Gasa hot spring, the trail winds through hillsides and villages.

Day 08 :The trail descends from the high agriculture benches above the river into a lush semi-tropical gorge filled with banana trees, creepers, and many more.

Day 09 :Visit Wangdue town.

Day 10 :In the morning, visit the Drugyel Dzong.

Day 11 :Drive to Paro Airport in early morning for departure.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01 :Arrive at Paro Airport and transfer to the hotel.

Day 02 :Acclimatization day. Sightseeing includes visit to the National Library, Memorial Chorten, Zelukha Nunnery and Handicraft Emporium.

Day 03 :The drive to Tashithang takes five hours and passes over Dochula Pass where you will get to see a panoramic view of the Himalayas. Drive to Punakha and visit Punakha Dzong. Drive to Tashithang. Overnight at camp.

Day 04 :The first day’s trail goes through the high agriculture benches above the Mo Chu (Female River) into a lush semi-tropical gorge filled with banana trees. Overnight at the camp. Altitude. 2,280m. Distance - 15 Km.

Day 05 :The trail runs through the villages, fields, oak and pine forests. Overnight at the camp. Altitude-2,350m. Distance 15 Km.

Day 06 :Visit the Gasa Hot Spring (Tshachu). In the forest near the Hot Spring, you can see the Takin, Bhutan’s national animal as well as many other species of birds and animals. Overnight at the camp.

Day 07 :After short climb from Gasa hot spring, the trail winds through hillsides and villages. Overnight at the camp at Geon Damji.

Day 08 :The trail descends from the high agriculture benches above the river into a lush semi-tropical gorge filled with banana trees, creepers, and many more. Your transportation will be managed there to receive you at Trashithang. Drive to Wangdue. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 09 :Visit Wangdue town. Drive to Punakha and view the unique Punakha Dzong. The Drive to Paro takes about 4 hrs. via Dochula pass.

Day 10 :In the morning, visit the Drugyel Dzong. On a clear day, you can get the glimpse of Mount Chhomolhari - Mountain of Goddess (24,000ft). Visit Ta Dzong, the watchtower that houses the National Museum and view a traditional wooden bridge. In the evening, stroll around Paro town.

Day 11 :Drive to Paro Airport in early morning for departure.
