About Bhairab Kunda Trekking

Bhairab Kunda Trekking is a fabulous journey through the off-the-beaten route. It is also taken as the pilgrimage trek to the Lake of Bhairab, who is the reincarnation of Shiva according to the Sanskrit mythology. The trail is isolated and it leads you through the traditional settlements of the ethnic groups and is rewarded by the spectacular Himalayan scenery. The Hindu and Buddhist devotees pay their homage once in a year by traveling there at the holy Lake.

The Bhairab Kunda Lake is located at 4200 meters altitude. It is popular as the destination, where all your sins will be washed out if you reached there. The foothill excursion begins from Jalbire and goes through the remote and off-touristy part. The trekking region lies close to the Tibetan border, which is at least trekking part of Nepal. During the trek, you can enjoy the journey through the remotely located villages and the typical culture of the ethnic groups. The Himalayan views of the north entice the trekkers. The most amazing part of the trek comes as you reach to the top at 4200 meters altitude, where the Bhairab Kunda lies. It is an excellent viewpoint of the surrounding greenery and the Lake itself, including the Himalayan sceneries as Langtang, Jugal and Rolwaling range. A week foot hill excursion ends at Larcha, near Tatopani in Kodari Highway and drive back to Kathmandu.

From Kathmandu, we drive to Jalbire that lies on the Kodari Highway after the breakfast. We pass the Balephi and drive through the dirt road and reach to Jalbore, which is a Newari town. This is the gateway of our trek. Overnight at lodge.

After the breakfast at Jalbire, we begin to walk through the easy countryside roadway. All the way we walk, the trail goes through the mixed communities. The remote scenery, cascading waterfalls and the terraced hillside are excellent. We take a rest reaching Chanaute. Overnight at lodge.

From Chanaute, the trail goes uphill. After the breakfast, we begin to climb up through the steep uphill trail. Crossing tiny streams and walking through the lush woods, we reach to the villages that are least populated. Finally, we reach to Khani Gaun, populated by the Newari people. Overnight at lodge.

We spend a rest and acclimatization day in Khani Gaun. We can explore the village and the culture of the local people. At the same time, the rituals and lifestyles of the villagers entice us. Walk around the village and back to the lodge. Overnight at lodge.

The trail is a steep uphill climb as we begin the trek after the breakfast. The technicality of the trek increases than the previous days due to the tough and slippery trail. But as the altitude increases, the exciting views begin to appear and you can really enjoy the surrounding beauties. Overnight at tented camp.

Leaving the Forest Camp, we begin to climb towards uphill. We enjoy the surrounding views that can be seen more excitingly as we climb higher. The trail goes through the pine and rhododendron forest. Almost uphill climb for about 5 hours, we reach to Pati, which is an open inn for the people who go on pilgrimage to the Bhairab Kunda. Overnight at tented camp.

After the breakfast at Pati, we climb up steeply for an hour. Then the levelled path begins. We walk for two hours continuously and ultimately, we reach to our final destination, which is dominated by the Bhairab Kunda (Lake). The holy Lake is also a famous pilgrimage site for the Hindu and Buddhist devotees. Overnight at tented camp.

We get up early in the morning and enjoy the wonderful sunrise. The morning becomes alluring with the enticing panoramas of the Bhairab Lake and the greeneries on its downhill surroundings. The Himalayan views of Langtang, Jugal Himal and Rolwaling range can be explored. Then we trek down to the Sherpa village through the forest and take a rest. Overnight at lodge.

The last day of the trek, we trek down steadily along the Bhote Koshi River bank. We descend to Larche, which is located close to the Tibetan border of Tatopani. After we check in at the lodge, we enjoy the natural hot spring after a half an hour walk and heal our body and tiredness. Overnight at lodge.

From Larcha, we drive back to Kathmandu through the Kodari Highway, which takes about 6 hrs and transfer to the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
