About Lower Dolpo Trek

Lower Dolpo Trekking a remote trekking that offers the adventurous experience in Nepal. The trail lies beyond the Dhaulagiri peak, on the Himalayan rain shadow area. During the trek to Lower Dolpo, you can explore the unique desert landscape, diversity of the Phoksundo National Park, traditional Tibeten settlements and the giant blue Lake- Phoksundo.

The trek to Lower Dolpo begins from Juphal of Dolpo, walking through the eye-catching landscape and undisturbed valleys that are just incredible attractions. From the district center of Dunai, it heads to more isolated part of the Dolpo, gradually ascending to the alpine region. The trail goes through the HHimalayan Yak Caravan route. Some of the alpine meadows of the trail are highly famous to collect the caterpillar fungus. The lower Dolpo trail crosses some of the tough high passes, including Numa La Pass and Baga La Pass. The tough part of the trail has been hanged on the giant rock boulder. Phoksundo Lake is the most attractive part of the trek, which is spread on the large area with a wide Lake side, where trekkers go to visit the Lake and spend exploring the surroundings or set the camp and enjoy an overnight. The Buddhist prayer flags, colorful monasteries, typical villages and spiritual lifestyles of the local people are brilliant.

Welcome to Nepal. You will be greeted by the representative of Adventure Bound Nepal and transferred to the hotel. In the evening, we give you a short briefing about the trip overview. Overnight at hotel.

We set out for the sightseeing in Kathmandu after the breakfast. Visiting Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and Swayambhunath, you can have a unique idea about the cultural knowledge and about the religiosity. Then back to the hotel and prepare for the trek. Overnight at hotel.

Today, we fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. Nepalgunj is located at the border region of the Terai. After check-in at the hotel, we set out for the tour around the city. Overnight at hotel.

In the morning, we fly from Nepalgunj to Juphal of Dolpo. The landscape of the Dolpo region is different than other part. It is arid and isolated. Meeting our trip crew, we begin to trek from Juphal to Dunai, the district center of the Dolpo. Overnight at tented camp.

Beginning the trek from Dunai, we take the route via southern bank of the Bheri River, we pass some of the gorges. The trail looks a bit tough, but it is relatively gentle. We walk just a little above the River and sometimes through the pine dominated forests. Finally, we will be welcomed by the colorful terraced fields of Tarakot. Overnight at tented camp.

After the breakfast, we head from Tarakot walking along the Tarap Chu River bank and explore the Sandul monastery on the way, located at the juncture of two Rivers. The more we walk, the remote we reach, where we can explore the typical Dolpo habitants. With some up and down, we reach to Laini and rest. Overnight at tented camp.

From Laini, we ascend through the steep uphill trail. Tarap River is the guideline of the trek. The wide valleys and meadows become narrow and narrow that look like a narrow gorge. The trail then includes random uphill and downhill, and we reach to Chyugur Khola that finally leads us to Nawarpani. Overnight at tented camp.

After the breakfast at Nawarpani, we begin to trek through the gentle uphill trail, passing the juncture of the Tarap Chu and Lang Khola. We are gradually above the tree line and the typical dry inner Himalayan valleys can be seen. Walking steadily for few hours, we reach to the Dho Tarap valley, which is populated by the Bon Po and Chhaiba sect. The amazing thing is that Magar ethnic groups are dominated in this valley. Overnight at tented camp.

The day begins after the breakfast. On the one hand we need a rest for our tired body and on the other, we need acclimatization and hiking is best for that. We explore the surrounding monasteries and get to know the local culture. In the season of caterpillar fungus, there will be the human caravan, searching for that. Overnight at tented camp.

From Dho Tarap, we move ahead through the grassy terraced slope. We can see the outstanding scenery of the River and the grassy land on both of the sides. The Tarap valley and its brilliant surroundings by the mountains are awesome. Then we reach to Tokyu Gaon, where we can explore a monastery. Heading above, we reach to the Numa La base camp. Overnight at tented camp.

Numa La Pass is technical to cross and this tough cross offers you the real sense of the adventurous journey. We begin to climb early in the morning through the steep uphill trail. From the top of the Numa La pass, the stunning views of Mt. Dhaulagiri can be explored along with the barren hillside of the Dolpo region. Then we trek down to the bottom. Known as Pelung Tang. Overnight at tented camp.

Another 5,000 meter pass we have to deal today. We begin early in the morning and steeply ascend to the top. No doubt, the impressive surroundings allure you, including the Himalayan scenery of Mt. Kanjirowa. From the top, we steeply descend to Dajok Tang and rest. Overnight at tented camp.

Leaving Dajok Tang, we walk all the way through the beautiful pine woods and meadows. The gentle trail gradually leads us to the Ringmo village, with various ups and down. This is a Tibetan Buddhist dominated village that is unique and picturesque. Overnight at tented camp.

After the breakfast, we begin to trek through the less technical trail. We follow the River bank and on the waterfalls beside the trail offer the magnificent scenery. We reach to the outstanding setting of the nature, prevailed by the huge blue Lake, which is known as the Phoksundo Lake, passing the Ringmo village. Overnight at tented camp.

After the breakfast at Phoksundo Lake, we trek down steadily to Chepka. Then we walk through the massive rocky boulder that takes your breath away. The route of this trek is dominated by various herbal plants that come under medicine. Finally, we reach to Shyanta and rest. Overnight at tented camp.

We trek back to Juphal from Shyanta, which is the last day of the trekking in the mountain. Reaching early, we do our personal things as cleaning and washing. Then we wait for the flight on the following day. Overnight at tented camp.

From Juphal, we fly back to Nepalgunj and connect a flight to Kathmandu, enjoying the Himalayan views and the green hills. Then, transfer to the hotel in Kathmandu and take a rest. Overnight at hotel.

After the tiresome trip of the Upper Dolpo Trek, we take a rest day in Kathmandu. This is also a reserve day in case the flight gets delayed in Dolpo due to the weather. Overnight at hotel.

According to the time of your flight, our Airport representative drops you to the International Airport for your final departure. Thank you for joining us for your trekking in Nepal. See you again.
