Potala Palace

Potala Palace is one of the most amazing architectural and the most amazing building to visit in Tibet. It is said that this palace was built in 7th century, following the marriage of King Songtsen Gampo, who had built some 9-storey palace with a thousand rooms up on the red hill and named it Potala. It became one of the popular places for meditation. The palace was collapsed and was rebuilt later on by Dalai Lama (an incarnated monk) in 17th century to this current size. This palace has been situated atop of the red hill. This palace rises above 117 m height and stretches some 400 m from east to west, 350 m from north to south. It contains some 1000 rooms to 20,000 shrines and 200,000 statues. It is built entirely out of stone and timber, on a copper foundation with earthquake-proof and its upper most levels are covered by golden roofs. These features have made the palace one of the most auspicious and one of the reasons of attractions from around the world.

Drepung Monastery

Drepung is the one of the largest monastery in Tibet in 1416 AD. It is situated at the lap of the mountain Gambo Utse, some 5-km west of Lhasa. It is known as the most important monastery in Tibetan Buddhism It covers an area of 250,000 sq km. It was one of the best schools for the Buddhism during 1930s. The term ‘Drepung’ stands for collecting-rice in Tibetan language. This is one of the sacred monasteries for making a tour in Tibet. Every year thousands of tourists make a visit to this monastery. These days it houses about 1,000 monks and attracts pilgrims and visitors from around the world.

Mt. Kailash and Mansarover Lake

Mt. Kailash (6,714 m) is one of the highest peaks located in Tibet. This peak is shaped like a diamond and adored like a lotus. Mt. Kailash has its own geographical significance and it is regarded to be the source of four major rivers—Karnali, Indus, Sutlej and Brahmaputra. Mt. Kailash also has the cultural importance and therefore, attracts thousands of pilgrims from various religious groups namely Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism and Bon, who believe, this peak is to be the abode of the gods.

Mt. Kailash popularly known as Mansarover is believed to be one of the sacred site for Buddhists and Hindu. The devotees believe that if they take a bath in this lake, the water cleanse their and leads them to heaven.
